Pre-K - 5th Grade
Pre-K students are taught lessons that promote comprehension and interaction. Key concepts are solidified using math manipulatives, cooking experiences, and periodic review. Each Bible story teaches a simple truth about God. Early handwriting skills and age-appropriate phonics are taught with songs and colorful visuals that will keep your preschool child happy and engaged.
Kindergarten students are taught to apply their natural curiosity so that they will develop a broad base of interests and the basic tools they need to explore the world around them. Bible stories in K5 Bible Truths spark an early interest in God’s Word. In addition to teaching art, science, and heritage studies, K5 Beginnings teaches listening, oral composition, phonics, and reading comprehension. Math manipulatives are used in K5 Math to explain basic math concepts, such as numbers, time, and money.
1st Graders use the phonics curriculum and reading lessons to help your child grow in reading comprehension. Other subjects teach handwriting, spelling, addition and subtraction, measurements, early American history, and the scientific view of God’s creation. Each Bible lesson from BJU Press Bible Truths helps the students learn to trust God and rely on Him.
In 2nd grade, students will continue the narrative of American history with Heritage Studies 2, improve their reading skills with two new reading books, and use math manipulatives to expand their understanding of number relationships. Science lessons, foundational English grammar, spelling lists, and handwriting introduce students to a new world full of wonders to discover. Biblical principles are woven throughout each subject and emphasized in Bible Truths 2: A Servant’s Heart.
3rd graders are at a fundamental stage of developing the habits, character, and discipline that will carry them through life. Their BJU curriculum will help guide them with reading lessons, character-building Bible stories, scientific classification, problem solving, and handwriting. Heritage Studies covers American history from the pioneer settlements to the Wild West. Music education is made easy with Music 3, which reinforces the vocal musical scale, introduces new instruments, and includes some composition.
4th graders use the BJU Press curriculum to reinforce students’ confidence in their new skills. As they work toward better academic achievement, they will also learn to apply biblical principles to their everyday actions. Heritage Studies brings to life great movements and events in American history from the late 1700s through the early 1900s. English lessons refine writing, spelling, grammar, and research skills. Math lessons focus on practicing basic math operations, while science lessons explore the ecosystems, forces, and natural resources of the world
5th graders use the BJU textbooks to focus on reading comprehension, math practice, and hands-on science projects. Grammar rules are reinforced as students write short essays and business letters. Heritage Studies 5 describes the period of American history between the flight of the Wright brothers and the Vietnam War. Students experience biblical truth integrated across disciplines, see godly character defined, and learn man’s place in God’s creation.
